Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Whole blood
Collection Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: Two 5-mL tubes
Specimen Minimum Volume: One 5-mL tube
Collection Instructions:
1. Avoid hemolysis
2. Label tubes with Patient's full name (first and last), ID number (DOB or MRN), Date and Time of Collection, Specimen Source (if applicable) and Collector's initials.
3. Include any pertinent transfusion history.
4. If blood may be needed, send red cell segments. Indicate number of units required and if antigen typing is needed.
5. Call Alomere Health Blood Bank at 320-762-6087 prior to sending.
