Hemoglobin A1c: <5.7%
Prediabetes: 5.7-6.4%
Diabetes: 6.5% or higher
Factors such as duration of diabetes, adherence to therapy, and age of the patient should be considered in assessing the degree of control. Also, hemoglobin A1c values may be affected by recent transfusion of packed red blood cells.
