Specimen Requirements

Both serum and urine are required for this test.  Serum must be drawn within 72 hours (3 days) of urine collection.

 

Serum

Specimen Type: Serum
Collection Container/Tube:

Preferred: Gold (gel separator) or Red (plain)

Acceptable: Plasma, Green top Lithium heparin

Specimen Volume: 2.0 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL

Collection Instructions:  Label as serum or plasma

 

Urine

Specimen Type:  Urine, 24 Hr Collection
Collection Container/Tube:  Clean, plastic urine collection container.

Specimen Volume:  10 mL from a 24-hour urine collection.

Collection Instructions:

1. Collect urine for 24 hours. Follow instructions in Urine Collections in Special Instructions.

2. No preservative.

3. Mix well before taking a 10 mL aliquot.

4. Label as urine

 

Additional Information:

1. 24-hour volume is required.

2. Patient's height and weight are required.
