Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 72 hours of draw.

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Collection Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)

Specimen Volume: Two 5-mL tubes

Specimen Minimum Volume: One 5-ml tube

Collection Instructions:

1. Avoid hemolysis

2. Label tube with patient’s full name (first and last), Patient ID (DOB or MRN), date of collection, specimen souce (if applicable), and collector's initials.

3. Include pertinent blood bank transfusion history.

4. Eluate performed on specimen with positive “Direct Antiglobulin Test.”
