Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Whole blood and smears

Collection Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA) and glass slides

Specimen Volume: 4 mL EDTA

Note:  CBC results must accompany this order.  If not provided, a CBC will be performed at an additional charge.

 

Thin Blood Films:

*Submit 5 slides from fresh, non-hemolyzed, EDTA whole blood (must be less than 4 hrs old)*

1. Prepare slides as a longer, single-cell-thin smear, with a "feathered edge."

2. Allow the slide to thoroughly air dry.

3. Place the slide in the plastic slide container.

4. Submit any foreign travel history.
