Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Serum
Collection Container/Tube:
Preferred: Gold (gel separator) or Red (plain)
Acceptable: Plasma, Green top (sodium or lithium heparin)

Specimen Volume: 2.0 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.2 mL

Collection Instructions:  

1. If digoxin levels are being routinely monitored, each test should be drawn at the same time interval following administration.

2. If the ordering provider does not specify a time at which to check digoxin levels, procedure recommends that levels be drawn at 12 hours after oral administration and drawn at 6 hours after IV administration.
