Test Code 0206128 Calcium, Ionized, Serum
Methodology
Ion-Selective Electrode (ISE)
Performing Laboratory
Alomere Health Hospital Laboratory
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Serum
Collection Container/Tube: Gold (gel separator)
Specimen Volume: Tube must be full
Collection Instructions:
Allow blood to clot for 30 minutes. Centrifuge with stopper in place for 10 minutes at 3,000 rpm to ensure the gel barrier separates the serum and cells. Keep specimen anaerobic (do not open or transfer) and send serum gel tube refrigerated. Specimen cannot be frozen.
Reject Due To:
Hemolysis: 2+
Specimen Transport Temperature
Refrigerated
Reference Values
1.15 - 1.30 mmol/L
Critical values (automatic call-back): <0.77 mmol/L or >1.57 mmol/L
Results will be reported at pH 7.40. Ionized calcium varies inversely with pH, at approximately 0.05 mmol/LL per 0.1 pH unit change.
