Reflex Information:

If hepatitis Bs antigen (HBsAg) screen is presumptive reactive it will be reported as “Reactive” and referred to Mayo Medical Laboratories for repeat and confirmation, if appropriate, at an additional charge.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Serum
Collection Container/Tube:

Preferred:  Gold (gel separator) or Red (plain)

Acceptable:  Plasma, Green top Lithium heparin

Specimen Volume: 2.0 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Allow serum tubes to clot completely. This may take up to 30 minutes.

2. Remove sample from cells by pipetting.

3. Indicate whether serum or plasma.
