Specimen Requirements
Blood and smears are required.
Specimen Type: Whole blood and smears
Collection Container/Tube: Lavender top (K2 EDTA)Specimen
Volume: Tube must be at least half full
Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL
Smears: Submit 2 well-made, unstained blood smears.
Label slides with patient's name (first and last).

Critical values (automatic call-back):
WBC: <2 or >34 K/UL (Newborn: <5.1 or 39.0)
HEMOGLOBIN: <7.0 or >25.0 g/dL (Newborn: <9.0 or >26.0)
BLASTS: presence of any blasts
PLATELET COUNT: <50 K/µL
