Important Note

Specimen must arrive in laboratory and be tested within 4 hours of draw at ambient temperature.

Methodology

PFA-100 test cartridge system.  Platelet adhesion and aggregation following a vascular injury is simulated in vitro.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type:  Whole blood

Collection Container/Tube:  Two 2.7 blue tops (3.2% sodium citrate)

Specimen Volume:  Tube must be filled completely to the stated draw volume

Collection Instructions:

1.  Use a 21-gauge needle or larger

2.  Gently invert 3 to 4 times to mix blood

3.  Do not refrigerate or centrifuge

4.  Do not put specimen on a mixing device or transport in pneumatic tube system

5.  Specimen must arrive in laboratory and be tested within 4 hours of draw at ambient temperature.

Reference Values

EPI testing is performed first.  If it is normal, no further testing will be performed.  If abnormal, ADP testing will be reflexed.

 

Platelet Function (EPI):  75-178 seconds

Platelet Function (ADP):  58-105 seconds
