Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Unpreserved stool. Formed stool will be rejected.
Collection Container/Tube: Clean, screw-topped plastic container.
Specimen Volume: Representative portion of stool.
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL
Reject Due To: Formed stool
Collection Instructions:
1. Collect unformed stool specimen in a clean, screw-topped plastic container.
2. Label with two patient identifiers.

Note: Patients may asymptomatically carry Clostridioides difficile; clinical correlation is needed when deciding how to manage patients with a positive test result. Because of asymptomatic carriage of toxigenic C. difficile in infants, treatment for C. difficile may not be needed in those 12 months or younger.
