Specimen Requirements

Stool

Specimen Type: Stool

Specimen Container/Tube: Submit stool in Cary-Blair or other suitable stool transport media.

Specimen Volume: Representative portion of stool

Specimen Minimum Volume: 5 mL

Collection Instructions:

Label container with patient’s name, second unique identifier (e.g. medical record number or date of birth), date and time of collection.

 

Specimen Transport Temperature

Ambient / Refrigerated <24 hours

Reference Values

No Campylobacter, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella, Shigella, or Aeromonas isolated.  Negative for enterohemmorrhagic Shiga toxin E. coli.
